Lakeland Area
Genealogy Society

Picture
Genealogy

is for Everyone
We are a group of local genealogists who have varying interests and degrees of experience in researching their family histories.  We meet once a month for a brief business meeting and an educational program.  We enjoy sharing our knowledge and helping others.

Meetings

Monthly meetings are normally held in the “Susan & Roger Smith Meeting Room” of the Minocqua Public Library, located at 415 Menominee St. in Minocqua.  Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of every month.  We also have field trips, a Christmas luncheon (for members) and/or a summer picnic during agreeable weather. The starting time for all the meetings is 1:30pm.
Guests are always welcome.

Membership

LAGS membership year extends from April 1 through March 31. Dues are $15.00 for an individual or families living in the same household. An email version of the newsletter and links to handouts are sent to all members.
Dues are used to bring in speakers and pay for programs.

Research Help

One on one research help is available from some of our more experienced members.  Either the society president or the Minocqua Library can put you in contact with one of these members.   Please let them know the type of help you are seeking:  help getting started, a brick wall, specific nationality, crossing the pond,  organizing the research documents, internet research, etc. This info will help the society determine which volunteer will best be able to assist you.

The Minocqua Public Library has a microfiche machine. Films can be ordered from the Wisconsin Historical Society. The nearest Family History Research Center is in Wausau
